MIDAS - Stakeholders

Founded in 2001, the European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional Languages (MIDAS) stimulates cooperation in the areas of information exchange, printing and marketing within an ever-growing community of minority daily newspapers throughout Europe. MIDAS also provides opportunities such as study visit programmes for journalists to report on minority protection and cultural diversity in Europe; it awards the Otto Von Hasburg Prize and the Midas Prize for Journalism .

Women in News (WIN) - Stakeholders

Women in News (WIN) aims to increase women’s leadership and voices in the news. It does so by equipping women journalists and editors with the skills, strategies, and support networks to take on greater leadership positions within their media. In parallel, WIN partners with media organisations to identify industry-led solutions to close the gender gap in their newsrooms, boardrooms and in the content they produce.

WIN is currently working with more than 80 media from 12 countries throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East including: Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe (WIN Africa) and  Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine (WIN MENA). WIN Southeast Asia launched in early 2018

Media Literacy Institute - Stakeholders

MEDIA LITERACY INSTITUTE (MLI) is a non-profit organization founded in 2017 in Greece. Its aim is to promote and disseminate the concepts of Media and Information Literacy in Greece, Europe and internationally. Media and Information Literacy aims at the critical perception, use and creation of knowledge and information οn any traditional or modern communication medium, and requires the acquisition of cognitive, functional, technical and communication skills, as well as the capabilities of using modern means of communication. The mission of the Institute is to inform the Greek public about the conceptual, theoretical, regulatory and practical framework in which MIL concepts are developed. Its goal is to mobilize citizens and to provide them with opportunities to access the relevant information, skills, tools and means and to engage in appropriate activities to become media literate.

MLI supports the idea that democracy requires well-informed citizens and that Media and News Literacy are among the most important ways to combat bias and hate speech online, to promote the fundamental right of citizens to be self-aware when they interact with the media, to learn how to cross check resources, to develop skills of inquiry when investigating the resources, creators and purposes of any content, so that readers can distinguish reliable information from “fake news”, personal opinions, prejudices or propaganda.

MEDIA LITERACY INSTITUTE focuses on printed and online content such as social media, mass media, all kinds of public and frequently used communication platforms, as well as various online and offline sources. In this context, MLI emphasizes that modern active citizens of all ages need to develop the habits of curiosity,  research and creative questioning along with suitable expression skills, to cultivate the necessary critical thinking in getting information from any source, and to acquire the knowledge on how to create and use multimedia messages.

Investigative Journalism Center of Moldova - Stakeholders

The Investigative Journalism Center of Moldova (Centrul de Investigatii Jurnalistice) is a non-governmental organisation created in 2003. Its main goals include improving the quality of investigative journalism in Moldova, strengthening the skills of investigative journalists, promoting best practices and techniques for investigative journalism, and conducting public awareness campaigns.

Media Accessibility Platform - Stakeholders

MAP (Media Accessibility Platform) aims to make media accessible to all, regardless of sensorial and linguistic barriers by creating an atlas of research, policies, training and practices in this field. Its beta version was presented in 2016.

Global Council To Build Trust in Media and Fight Misinformation - Stakeholders

The Global Council To Build Trust in Media and Fight Misinformation (GC2FM) is a global initiative aiming at facilitating and actioning realistic, practical and workable solutions to the problem of misinformation. The Council will unite and focus on this issue through four key areas based on the core needs identified during the framing process: first, the creation of a repository of resources and initiatives in the fight of misinformation: second, the creation of a network of individuals, organisations and initiatives; third, foster innovation in order to identify workable solutions; forth, stimulate the industry to speak with a unified voice.

The framing committee of the Global Council is composed by: the Ethical Journalism Network, the European Broadcasting Union, the Global Editors Network, the Global Forum for Media Development, the Online News Association, and WAN-IFRA/World Editor’s Forum.

The Council was launched in April 2018.

Knight Foundation - Stakeholders

Knight Foundation is a foundation based in the United States. It supports projects in different fields, including journalism, with the aim of fostering informed and engaged communities. The supported initiatives, leaders and ideas are intended to meet the needs of an evolving practice of journalism, including the use and adoption of new media technology. The foundation also seek to enable sustainable news organizations, primarily by supporting the relevance of their journalism to audiences. 

Universität Wien (University of Vienna) - Stakeholders

The Media Governance and Industries Research Lab of the University of Vienna studies the processes of and challenges posed by governance of communication processes and the media in relation to Democracy, Citizenship and Human Rights. Its work is both theory and practice driven and it aims to bridge academic systematic enquiry and theory together with applicability and solution driven research. 

Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) - Stakeholders

Founded in late 1989, the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) is an interdisciplinary public policy institute dedicated to the values of democracy and market economy. CSD defines itself as a "non-partisan, independent organization fostering the reform process in Europe through impact on policy and civil society". Born as a think-tank, its main goals are: to provide an enhanced institutional and policy capacity for a successful European integration process, especially in the area of justice and home affairs; to promote institutional reform and the practical implementation of democratic values in legal and economic practice; to monitor public attitudes and serve as a watchdog of the institutional reform process.
